Head to the Thann Valley for a day combining hiking and historical discovery. You will discover the Witch’s Eye, the remains of a legendary castle that you will reach after a pleasant hike. Enjoy a convivial lunch at a typical farm inn before delving into our history at the Hartmannswillerkopf, a place filled with emotion. The day ends with a short hike to the Grand Ballon to enjoy an unforgettable panorama of Alsace!

Departure from Colmar with the Kutzig, our red open-top bus (28 seats), towards the Thann Valley. Discover an exceptional and unusual site in the heights of Thann! Let yourself be surprised by the ruins of Engelbourg Castle, commonly called the ‘Witch’s Eye’ due to its shape evoking an big round eye watching the valley.

(Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes – Loop of 1 to 1.5 hours of walking)

Continue to the must-visit World War I memorial site filled with history and emotions; Hartmannswillerkopf. Guided tour of the National Monument, the crypt, and the necropolis. Then free time at the Franco-German Historial of Hartmannswillerkopf, which traces its history through numerous photos and soldier testimonies…

Hair in the wind, continue to the Grand Ballon, with its panoramic view over the entire Alsace Plain. Free time to enjoy the summit. Possibility to take a short autonomous walk to the radar tower depending on the weather (loop of 20-30 minutes from the Chalet Hôtel du Grand Ballon – Col du Ballon).
